All you need for the perfect day at the beach

The sun on your back, a loved one by your side, and the gentle sounds of the Arabian Sea do elevate a Goa beach day from good to great but they're a few essentials short of perfection.

You know you deserve that lil' bit extra.

So here's our top tips on how to make sure your beach vacay hits the spot every single time:

Tip #1: Always pack sunscreen

We love the sun and all the work it does to keep us warm and cozy. If we were to rank the billions of stars in the sky, the sun would always be our number one. However, the extra ultraviolet radiation packed in with its beautiful golden light can do us a lot of harm.

The sun emits two types of UV radiation, UVA and UVB, which can cause damage to the skin in different ways.

UVA radiation can penetrate deep into the skin and cause premature aging, such as wrinkles and age spots, as well as increasing the risk of skin cancer.
UVB radiation, on the other hand, can cause sunburn and also increases the risk of skin cancer.

Sunscreen contains ingredients that can absorb, reflect, or scatter the sun's UV rays, providing a barrier between the skin and the sun. This helps to prevent the harmful effects of UV radiation on the skin, including sunburn, premature aging, and skin cancer. In addition to protecting the skin from UV radiation, some sunscreens also contain moisturizing and nourishing ingredients that can help to keep the skin hydrated and healthy.

White, brown, black, the sun doesn't care about the amount of melanin in our skin. So to avoid getting burnt to a crisp on your lovely Goan vacation, make sure you get your hands on the highest-SPF sunscreen before you lie down for a nap on a Goa beach.

Anything above SPF 50 should guarantee you enough protection from our friendly neighborhood giant ball of flaming gas.

Tip #2: A beach spread is a beach bed

Have you ever stepped out from a refreshing swim only to find every beach bed occupied? Happens every time but before you lie down on the bare sand, there are some things you should consider.

Sand is an irregular and uneven surface. Lying on it can cause pressure points on your body, leading to intense discomfort or pain. If you're in the sun, sand can also get pretty hot while its abrasive nature can cause irritation or small cuts on dehydrated skin.

Plan your way out of this conundrum by packing a beach mat in your beach bag. Even a simple beach spread can save you from weeks of finding sand in the most unlikeliest of places.

An added bonus is that your own spread is bound to be a bit more hygienic than a public bed.

Tip #3: Stay hydrated

With the sun shining down your neck, thirst is inevitable.

Did you know regulation hydration helps you regulate your body temperature, lubricate your joints, boost your energy, support brain functions. help with digestion, while also keeping you looking young and carefree? Keep yourself healthy and help the beaches in Goa remain clean by carrying your own water bottles.

And while you're at it, why not pack some fruit? Watermelon goes down so easy in the sun and vendors on the Goa beach are the perfect source for fresh tender coconuts. Apart from meeting your hydration needs, fruit can also give you the boost in energy you require for those hour-long games of volleyball in the sun.

Which brings us to:

Tip #4: Keep some activities handy

A day of sitting around in the sun can get boring pretty quick if there's nothing else to do. Even hardcore meditators would have a rough time sitting in silence for eight hours straight. The best way to alleviate this is to keep your beach bag brimming with potential.

Think of your day on a Goa beach as an opportunity to explore all the interests you've been meaning to catch up on. The book you picked up at the airport, the board game your boo's been begging you to play, or the empty journal that's been tempting you all year.

If you're the sporting kind, a game of volleyball or frisbee is the perfect sundowner activity as the warmth of the day gives way to a cool breeze.

Overall, packing your beach bag with a variety of activities and diversions can help you make the most of your day on the beach. Whether you're looking to relax, stay active, or pursue creative interests, having plenty of options on hand will ensure that your day on the beach is fulfilling and enjoyable.

Tip #5: Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!

Okay, your beach bag probably becomes a beach suitcase at this point in the list but we promise you these next few accessories are totally worth it.

  • Towels

Douglas Adams said in The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy, "the towel is the number one thing a hitchhiker should bring with them on a trip around the universe"

The beach is the best part of the universe.

Therefore, carrying towels to the beach is always a good idea.

  • Extra Bags

Alright, you had your swim but do you really wanna spend all day dripping wet?

Carry a small bag for your wet clothes so that when you've had enough of the swimming and the cavorting and the splashing water on each other, you can change into something fresh for your post-swim nap.

  • Sunglasses

Sunglasses always make you look cool. Enough said.

That should do it.
